Although Sweden has a relatively small population, the United States ran a large US$9.7 billion trade deficit with the Scandinavian nation in 2006.

With a population of some 9 million, Sweden exported US$13.8 billion worth of merchandise to the United States in 2006, up 0.1% from 2005 and up 50% since 2002.

Swedish imports from the U.S. rose 11% to $4.1 billion in 2006, up 30.8% since 2002.

In terms of the merchandise flow between the two countries, America’s trade deficit with Sweden was $9.7 billion in 2006, up 60.2% from 2002. The U.S. trade deficit with Sweden decreased 3.9% in 2006 – down from the 7.3% deficit increase in 2005 from the year earlier.

Of the $13.8 billion in American imports from Sweden in 2006, the following product categories had the highest values.
