With a population of some 44 million, Spain exported US$9.8 billion worth of merchandise to the United States in 2006, up 14% from 2005 and up 71.3% in 4 years.
Spanish imports from the U.S. rose 7.1% to $7.4 billion in 2006, up 39.8% since 2002.
In terms of the merchandise flow between the two countries, America’s trade deficit with Spain was $2.4 billion in 2006, up 454% from 2002. The U.S. trade deficit with Spain increased 41.8% in 2006 – down from the 139% deficit increase in 2005 from the year earlier.
