With a population of over 16 million, Chile exported US$9.6 billion worth of merchandise to the United States in 2006, up 43.5% from 2005 and up 153% since 2002.
Chilean imports from the U.S. rose 30% to $6.8 billion in 2006, up 160% since 2002.
In terms of the merchandise flow between the two countries, America’s trade deficit with Chile was $2.8 billion in 2006, up 136% from 2002. The U.S. trade deficit with Chile increased 92% in 2006 – up from the 28% deficit increase in 2005 from the year earlier.
