Alibaba Catalogues Many Yuletide Decorations & Designs from China

Artificial Christmas trees sold on alibaba.com come in a wide variety of materials, designs, shapes and sizes.

Of the thousands of Christmas tree exports advertised online on global trade site alibaba.com, about 85% originate from exporters in mainland China.

Historically a Christian celebration, Christmas Day was never a Chinese tradition nor is it a public holiday in China today.

However, Chinese manufacturers and wholesalers certainly have a strong business understanding of the increasing demand for artificial Christmas trees. As well as posing less of a fire threat, artificial trees are seen as cheaper and more convenient than natural trees.

Many Christmas trees sold on alibaba.com are made from flat polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheets. Environmentalists warn about inhaling or eating bits of toxic lead dust from PVC Xmas tree branches. Ironically, Yiwi Hualing Zipper company attempts to diffuse this risk by describing its product as PVC Christmas Tree lightly flocked pine with snow.

Given that the first artificial trees in the late 1950s were made of metal, alibaba.com’s sales leads for ironwork and electroplated Christmas trees should come as no surprise. Shanghai Weijun’s metal spiral trees and EasyMateGift’s steel wire Christmas tree with jewels embellishes their products’ metallic colour with designer features.

The lack of green in metallic trees is addressed differently by Huiyang District Christmas Decoration Factory, The Chinese exporter sells a six-foot gold tinsel Folding Tree.

Shanghai Weijun advertises a foldable, three-ply paper Christmas tree strong enough to support hanging ornaments. Zhejang Hengsen exports a spiral tree made of rope decorated with multicoloured light bulbs, while Henan Yuanron Industrial makes its Christmas trees from Oxford cloth. Felt and tiny Christmas lights are the principal materials for China National Arts & Crafts’ products. The Christmas trees produced by Lu’an City Guzhen Feather Craftwork Factory are made from feathers.

Kingtown Inflatable Manufacturing sells inflatable Christmas trees made from vinyl.

Other artificial trees listed on alibaba.com can only imitate the shape of a real Christmas tree. These include Shaanxi Zenith’s crystal products, Ningbo Clear-Gem’s miniature glass Christmas trees as well as Chinese ceramic and fine porcelain designs.

Other Christmas trees are made from rawer, natural materials: Xiamen Living Industrial ships Christmas trees are assembled from pinecones; Huangyan Raysan Arts creates its trees from varnished wood.

Dezhou Henguan Gifts specializes in trees made from coloured plastic slices and acrylic beads. Guangzhou Starfish sells Christmas trees each of which strings together 160 shiny and matte Christmas balls.

Zhuji Crazy Co. supplies huge Christmas tree candles. Other vendors bundle their more conventional artificial trees with special effects like rotating bases, snow-falling branches and fiberoptic lights.

Shenzhen Golden Tripod Electronic has designed a multi-coloured electronic device that plugs into the USB port of a laptop or desktop computer. The computerized Christmas tree both gives light shows and plays music via the USB port connection, and can be configured to hold a video camera.

One American exporter on alibaba.com describes giant Everest Christmas trees ranging in size from 18 to 30 feet. Not to be outdone, China’s Guangdong Hongsen Group exports gigantic artificial trees up to 66 feet tall. A minimum order of 500 units is required.
