China produces half of the mobile phones in the world, and Shenzhen produces half in China. This article is about the China cell phone wholesale and retail markets.

China produces more than half of the mobile phones in the world. In the first half of 2009, the China mobile phone industry produced 305 million mobile phones - 68 million sold to Chinese consumers and 237 million to other countries at a wholesale price of $16.1 billion.

In the same period, China imported 11.74 million mobile phones, accounting for 15% of the Chinese mobile phone market.

70% of the mobile phones in China in 2008 were made for Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG, and Sony Ericsson. The Chinese mobile phone giants ZTE and Huawei took 10% of the total output.

Shenzhen Mobile Phones

Shenzhen, a city in the South-China Guangdong Province, produces around half of the mobile phones in China. In the first half of 2009, Shenzhen made more than 150 million mobile phones and exported 82.18 million at a wholesale price of $5.56 billion.

Besides international brands, Shenzhen also produced numerous local-brand mobile phones. Some of them have amazing features such as four cameras in different facets and a razor at the top of the mobile phone. The Shenzhen mobile phones include 3G mobile phones and Window Mobile 6.1 products.

In 2008 Shenzhen produced 80 million local-brand mobile phones. Their retail prices were from 100 yuan ($15) to 1,500 yuan ($220). The wholesale prices were from $10 to $100, which depend on products and markets. For example, the mobile phones from a Shenzhen-based producer sold to the Middle East market at price of $35- $50, but to the Indian market at $30 - $40.

How to Get to Shenzhen Mobile Phone Market

Shenzhen has an international airport. Visitors can also get there from international hubs such as Hong Kong and Guangzhou through Chinese trains within one or two hours. Most of Shenzhen’s biggest mobile phone markets are in Huaqiang Bei (Huaqiang North) of the Futian District. There are three (or more) large mobile phone markets in Huaqiang Bei.

The Yuanwang Digital Market (floor two) is a wholesale and retail market for famous brand and small brand mobile phones. The Longsheng Mobile Phone Wholesale Town is a market for used or local brand mobile phones. The 3rd market is the former Tong Luo Wan Department Store. It sells foreign brand or small brand mobile phones.

Some Chinese mobile phone makers have an English website. But in most cases, it may be better find a Shenzhen mobile phone producer through the wholesalers in the Yuanwang Digital Market for a better deal.
